PARRAMATTA GIRLS by Alana Valentine at Rondo.
The Suitcase Troupe (the Adult section of N-QADA) will combine forces with Rondo members to perform this touching play about the Parramatta Girls Home. Women and girls were sent to Parramatta to be disciplined as early as 1821. It had many names until its closure in 1974, but it was a place where ‘uncontrollable’ girls were sent to be controlled, using inhumane and often illegal methods. The play is based on a collection of women’s true stories. Valentine has created eight composite characters drawn from many women.

THE FANTASTIC MR FOX - UPSTAGERS is a newly formed theatre training group for those students in primary school. Their first production will occur in November with The Fantastic Mr. Fox.

STORIES IN THE DARK by Debra Oswald will be performed by the N-QADA Theatre Company. Tomas finds himself trapped in a war-torn city separated from his family. He takes refuge in a derelict house with Anna. Every night, as bombs fall on the street outside, Anna tells Tomas folk stories to distract them both from the horrors lurking outside. And so begins a journey into the shifting shimmering world of ogres, princes, singing bones, foolish lads and wolf-mothers. This play explores the power of storytelling, mingling the magic of earthy wisdom of folk talks with the hard-edged story of violence, conflict and struggle to survive.
