N-QADA SPEECH STUDIO

SPEECH COMMUNICATION TRAINING:
Whether you want to develop confidence, improve your communication skills, participate in public speaking or debating, speech and communication training will help you achieve those goals in a supportive and stimulating environment. The classes will be challenging with an aim to develop critical, independent thinkers. The focus of these classes is correcting speech, learning the skills of improvisation, characterisation and preparing students to participate in the Eisteddfod in June. Many of the students from this studio will participate in the Trinity College and AMEB speech exams later in the year. There are a number of classes to choose from, and each is put into a level based on the students grade and or age.

SPEECH COMMUNICATION TRAINING WILL:
  • Encourage reading, cultivate confidence, individuality and creativity
  • Develop a clear and interesting voice through an understanding of how voice is produced
  • Develop a love of poetry and storytelling
  • Characterization – suspend belief, explore creatively and imaginatively being someone different, learn to write your own scenes and interpret script
  • Effective communication – prepare you for public speaking and debate
  • Improve conversation
  • Improvisation – in response to stimulus of the immediate environment
  • Suitable for all ages, Youth and Adults
  • Speech examinations can be included on Year 12 certificate

SPEECH STUDIO LEVELS
  LEVEL 1 (Grades 1-2)
     
  Classes are for 30 minutes each week -
for the school term

The student will develop the skills to interpret poetry and prose and understand how to select a theme to develop an integrated program. The student will begin to develop an awareness of using the stage space. Students will be encouraged to develop characterization through role play. Voice will be used expressively and the student will be encouraged to communicate naturally and effectively in discussion Classes will also consist of mime, improvisation and storytelling. .

  LEVEL 2 (Grades 3-5)
     
  Classes are for 1.5 hours each week -
for the school term

The student will develop the skills to interpret poetry and prose and understand how to select a theme to develop an integrated program. Students will learn how to interpret script and create characterizations as a solo performer or in duos. Storytelling, in character or with the aid of a prop or puppet will be encouraged. A clear speaking will be encouraged at all times as the students understanding of phrasing, pause and emphasis as applied to reading aloud and storytelling.

  LEVEL 4 (Grades 6-7)
     
  Classes are for 1.5hours each week -

The students will be competent in improvisation, mime, movement and storytelling. They will be able to use their voice effectively to communicate their material. The students will encourage to present talks, discuss research in the interpretation of text, and communicate naturally.

AMEB and Trinity College Exams
Several students are participating in the AMEB and Trinity College, Voice and Communication this year. It is an exam that focuses on public speaking and communication skills.
